Mother & Child Hospital, Ludhiana

Built within the existing Civil Hospital campus in the heart of the city, the hospital caters to maternity, gynaecology and paediatric services, and adds facilities missing from the main building.

Four blocks surround a central core. The entrance is a large open lobby around a courtyard that holds the hospital’s traffic and disperses people to the wings around it, while a separate emergency entry at the rear gives maternity patients direct access to the operating theatres.

Fins and bands scale down the massing of a large building, and a warm, soothing palette with one continuous highlight band ties the blocks together — an airy building designed to reduce the stress usually associated with medical settings.
